We surveyed homeschoolers to identify the best practices for homeschooling. The basic question we asked was this -
"What are the things you do that would make someone else comfortable sending THEIR child to YOUR school?"
Try this quiz to see how your school compares with those leading practices:
- I choose a balanced
curriculum that meets my child's learning needs.
- At the start of the school day, my children can tell me everything they need to complete that day for each
subject. (e.g., which pages to read, which problems to do, which books they'll need to use, etc.)
- I have a detailed, daily plan for each child, for every day of the school year, in place on Day 1.
- I can produce accurate and complete report cards or transcripts at any time, instantly.
- I can measure how far ahead or behind schedule we are at any moment in the school year.
- I have a way to confirm that the plan for each child for the remainder of the school year is realistic and achievable.
- I update the entire plan for the remainder of the year so it is accurate when my kids miss school due to illness or other disruptions.
- I can quantify how much work each child has to do for the week (e.g., # of pages to read, # of problems to complete, etc.).
- When I'm providing individual instruction to one person, my other kids progress successfully in an independent fashion.
